Governor
Holds Press Conference in Fresno to Discuss State Budget Crisis
"But in the last four weeks, instead of negotiating and coming to an
agreement on a budget, the legislature has decided to hold hearings, to have
an endless amount of debates, to do finger-pointing and to assign blame. At
the end of the day, nothing was accomplished, absolutely nothing. As a
matter of fact, the only thing they did accomplish was partial solutions
that lack both the necessary cuts and the long-term reforms."

China isn’t
turning out
to be an
engine of
growth for
Asia.
One possible
explanation
is
protectionism,
as China
works to
encourage
exports
while
curbing
imports. The
country
objects to
the “Buy

provisions
in U.S.
stimulus
efforts, yet
it is using
similar
tactics.
Another
reason may
be that
China’s

more spin

Either way,
talk that
China would

isn’t
working out.
Nor will the

that’s being
resurrected.

There is no
doubt in my mind that
Mariposa County needs a
more
diverse economy. Most of
the private jobs are in
tourism, service and
government. There are a
few excellent jobs in
light industry but for
the most part openings
are slow to open and,
because their
customers are part of
the national and world
wide economy, they
perhaps are even more
affected by the economic
problems that beset our
society.

RACE FOR CONGRESS We are always
better off if our political offices are contested. It has been a long
time since Congressman George Radanovich has been seriously challenged
for the 19th District Seat. Win or lose, this
challenge should revitalize interest in our local political
representation.
RACE FOR CONGRESS
QUITE TIRING This morning,
while drinking my coffee, I watched C-Span. Without a doubt, this public
channel teaches us more about what is wrong than right about our
governing body. Agri-Tourism At the
present time our county Board of Supervisors is considering adding, at
least legitimately, Agri-Nature Tourism as a land use in our General
Plan. The main problem has been and continues to be how to define
Agri-Nature.
Quite Tiring and Agri-Tourism
NIC FIORI Yosemite and Mariposa County seldom have had an icon
of such personnel magnitude as Nic Fiori,
who passed away this week. He was not of
politics or government, yet his position in
our community, state and nation would rival
many of the more significant participants of
our lives.
