The Choices
By Guest Editorial Writer James Heth

The elections coming in November will present Americans with two interesting choices. Those Americans that feel comfortable as to the way things are can vote for Republicans and it is likely that the war in the mid-east will be expanded into Iran and the billions this will cost will most certainly move us past the recession and into a full blown depression equal to if not greater that the one we had in 1929. The loss of young American lives in the mid-east wars (because Iran has over million well trained troops, unlike the rag-tag unprofessional army in Iraq. Iran too, has modern weapons including long range missiles) will possibly more than triple and rise up to near 15,000 and many more wounded will hopelessly over-burden our veteran’s hospitals. Additionally; the very wealthy will receive even larger tax breaks as will corporations and the rest of the Americans will have tax increases to make up the difference. Civil liberties will be stifled and constitutional guarantees will be even further eroded. More companies will take operations overseas and thousands more jobs will be lost. On the other hand if you are unhappy with the way things are and vote for the Democrats; then very different things can be expected to happen. First; the wars in the mid-east will wind down and the American troops there will be brought back home. The tax structure will be changed so that the very wealthy and pampered corporations will no longer be able to avoid paying their fair share. The savings from no longer being at war will be invested in a number of programs benefiting; education, our infrastructure, health programs for all Americans and other national priorities. New far-reaching energy policies will create many new jobs for Americans. The economy will right itself and we will no longer need to borrow money from China and other nations, and American jobs will no longer be going overseas. So, depending how Americans perceive the present state of affairs will determine the direction and the future of the country. James Heth
