THE RECORD
By Guest Editorial Writer James Heth

It is common knowledge that electing the Republican Senator John McCain is akin to giving Bush a third term. However, before voting, one should look at the record. In 2001 Clinton left a balanced budget. The national debt was down to 6.4 trillion. Today the budget is totally out of whack and our national debt is now over 9.4 trillion. Additionally, the illegal wars in Iraq and Afghanistan are costing us over 15 billion a month. With total projected costs to be over 3 trillion. Thousands of families are losing their homes and thousands more are being foreclosed upon each day. In 2007 414 billions of American assets were sold to foreign countries. In 2008 over 200 billion was needed to shore up floundering U.S. banks. We are now borrowing over 2 billion a day in order to stave off financial collapse. The American dollar, once the standard of the world has now shrunk to its lowest value ever. Considering this Republican fiscal record, it is a mystery why anyone in his or her right mind would want to vote for anyone with even the remotest possibility of continuing the existing policies put in place by this administration. It is indeed, unfortunate that more people don’t look at the record before voting. Our country right now is teetering on the very edge of complete financial disaster. A little bit more of the same would tip us completely over and we would fall into a deep depression that would make 1929 seem like the beginning of “Good Times”.
