In the news today, much is being said about qualifications needed to be president. Unfortunately there is no school or college course one might take to adequately prepare him or her for this task. Graduating from Harvard itself is not enough, nor is being shot down in aerial combat a qualification. Being in congress, however, is definitely a good learning ground for the office of the president for some of our finest presidents came out of congress. Abe Lincoln at once comes to mind as well as Harry Truman, Richard Nixon (who in spite of Watergate many consider to have been an excellent president). There are more, some more distinguished than others, but the fact remains that history shows congress to be a good training ground for future presidents. In this respect both of our candidates today have among many other outstanding values in their respected resumes, successful services in congress. Both of these men have patterns of great success in their respective histories. Obama, in spite of being black, not only graduated from Harvard with honors, but additionally became the editor of the prestigious Harvard Law Review. These are not small accomplishments. The years of community service in Arizona added to his service record and his years in Congress; where he was known for his ability to work in harmony with those in the opposition party, provide John McCain with a bed rock of knowledge to aid in a stint in the White House, The fact is both of these men in their lives have aptly demonstrated the moral and intellectual ability to sit in the White House These men demonstrate one of the many reasons why this country, born out of revolution, has not only lasted but has consistently grown over more than two hundred years. We are indeed fortunate to have two such superb choices.
