Surprises

Living within the mountain shadows guarantees one a continuing array of surprises. I had one yesterday that I am still in awe over.

I had trundled out onto our driveway in my wheelchair in order to smell the roses growing outside along the edges of our driveway. Quite suddenly I heard a great deal of commotion coming from in back of the house. To my complete surprise four peacocks in line came flying around the corner of the house with our dog leaping and barking along about ten feet behind them. They circled over my head flew the length of the yard, made a sharp bank and sailed up onto the roof. They sat up there the rest of the morning.

I had no idea that peacocks lived around these mountains but there they were. The dog lay out under a tree panting eyeing the roof from time to time before he finally trotted off into the woods after a chipmunk or something perhaps a bit less exotic than peacocks.

The mountain shadows have surprised me many times but nothing like yesterday morning.
