Liberalism grew out of The Age of Enlightenment. It was born in defiance of The Divine right of Kings. It blossomed with the concept of individual right above those of the state. It preached that individual liberty must be every political goal. It preached individual rights and equal opportunity, freedom of thought and speech and meaningful limits on government power. Today liberalism is considered by many Republicans to be something akin to AIDS or some other foul disease. These ”many” say the liberal policies never worked and never will. One cannot help but wonder that after the disasters of three Republican presidents in a row with conservative policies beginning with Harding (the most corrupt president ever after G W Bush) followed by Coolidge and Hoover and the great depression resulting from these so called conservative administrations. What is interesting and overlooked by those same “many” is the fact that it was the liberal FDR and his outrageous liberal policies that began to steer us out of the great depression. From FDR and his liberal congress came such liberal programs like, Social Security, unemployment insurance, disability insurance, the minimum wage and several other liberal policies that are still with us today and are working well. And so when they speak with great contempt about liberal policies they should smile.
