Lupine

If Mariposa were to have a flower associated with it, that flower just might be lupine.

This lovely flower grows wild in the meadows and alongside the roads in and around Mariposa.   The roadside lupines are generally white and purple/blue and some grow horizontal away from the stem as if cantilevered.

Within the fields and meadows the lupine are mostly purple/blue and will sometimes grow as high as four feet.  Lupine comes in a full array of colors but in Mariposa only the white or the purple/blue are seen.

The purple/blue lupine gives off a very strong delightful musk like pleasant odor that seems to drift on the wind and can be smelled over long distances. At any rate lupine and Mariposa go together like sugar and cream.
