A Rose

Gertrude Stein said that “a rose by any other name would smell as sweet because a rose is a rose is a rose.” She could have also said,  “a rose by any other color is still a rose.”  I have one in my yard that in the morning is a stunning, shimmering, bright, golden color but as the sun sinks late in the afternoon it turns into a deep crimson. I have checked around and as far as I can tell I have the only rose that has two colors on the same day.

There are many advantages in living within the mountain shadows but I never realized that having a two toned rose bush would be one of them.

Oh yes, there are many other lovely flowers but they are not roses.
