The CSA, 218 and Tobacco Funds

Have any of the volunteer fire fighters taken the time to read Prop 218?
Do any of the fire fighters realize that the citizens of Mariposa do want new fire engines and firehouses?
Do any of the fire fighters know that the CSA is potentially illegal?
Do any of the firefighters realize that the board of supervisors could fund the engines and stations through the TOT and tobacco money if they so chose?
Where are the firefighters week after week when this board and the CAO spend money like drunken sailors? Even if you cannot come to the weekly board meetings, you can read the agenda and keep track of what is going on. The only time most people come to board meetings is if they have their "own agenda".
It is not fair that 50% of the taxpayers pay for 100% of the bill.
People who object to the CSA are doing just that. They are not against the improvements, they are against the fact that the money to fund this is coming from the wrong direction.
Approve this measure and next year they'll come back with yet another CSA for something else.
Our property taxes and the TOT could take care of Police and Fire and many other items if better managed.
Read prop 218 and ask why it specifically states that a CSA should not be created to fund police, fire and libraries.
The reason being is that our taxes are supposed to do this.
Prop 218 also states, among other things, that the only people that can benefit from the CSA are those who contribute to it.
Be informed, get your facts straight, don't threaten, don't use whining and cry baby tactics to try to convince people to approve this. It should be on a ballot so that all can vote for it and it should apply to all who would benefit. Its not the money folks, its the back door politics that has created the CSA that people object to. Just for the record my son was a volunteer firefighter in Bolinas so I respect what each and every one of you do to protect us and what your families feel when you go out.
