May 3, 2018 - Since Earth Day was Sunday, April 22, SFCS held a spring Earth Day Festival on Friday, April 27. The event was organized by community volunteer Dana Swarth. Erika Miranda's fifth and sixth graders created and lead informational centers and fun activities, including making origami bookmarks from used paper, bird feeders from milk cartons, and whistlers from raisin boxes; participating in a recycling race and nature frisbee scavenger hunt; signing a pledge for planet earth; and learning about electric cars, ecosystems, and continents. Staff and volunteers led craft tables. Face and hand painting was as popular as ever. The Brown family brought some of their animals for students to see. Students earned tickets as they participated in activities. The tickets could be exchanged for fruits and veggies, leather works, and used books and magazines donated by Raw Roots Farms, Anahata, and Native Earth. The Spring Festival was enjoyed by all!
