Justine-KirchnerJustine M. Kirchner

July 1949 – August 2013

Justine Kirchner, of Mariposa, passed away at UCSF Medical Center in San Francisco. Justine was born in Merced, CA. to Glen and Irene Gordo of Cathey’s Valley. She attended school in Cathey’s Valley and graduated from Mariposa High School and Merced College with an Associate Degree. Justine and Bob shared their home with over 200 foster children over many years. She also worked for 26 years as a bookkeeper/accountant in Merced and later with Yosemite area motels. Justine and Bob thoroughly enjoyed their 35 years of marriage together. She enjoyed time spent with friends, sports and travel, and especially their family and extended family of friends. She was gifted in floral arranging and operated a gift/floral shop for many years in Mariposa and Atwater. Justine was enormously generous and loved to surprise people with gifts.

Justine is survived by her husband Bob of Mariposa, daughter Carrie (James) Russell of Turlock, son Robert II (Chale’) Kirchner of Turlock, and son Henry Martinez of Turlock.  Sisters: Rowene Hood, Darlene (John) Irwin, Jolene Gordo, Karene Lane and Debbie Patterson, 7 grandchildren- Aiden, Amanda, Austin, Brianna, Grayden, Jenna and Robert. Also, Aunt Betty of Mariposa, many cousins, nieces, nephews, her very special Sister- Cheryl (Alan) and many, many friends.

A Mass to honor Justine is scheduled for Saturday, August 24th at 2:30 p.m. at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Mariposa. A gathering in the Parish Hall will follow the mass.

Memorial gifts, in lieu of flowers, are encouraged for the “Justine’s Angels” Fund, C/O - P. O. Box 1947, Mariposa, Ca. 95338 or the St. Joseph’s Ladies Guild, C/O St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Mariposa, Ca.

Range condition improves a bit

Ranchers who struggled much of this year with lack of forage for their animals have now found some relief. Due to spring rains, pasture conditions have improved in parts of the state. But range conditions remain challenging, and ranchers worry about being able to grow enough forage for summer. Some ranchers may need to reduce their herds further, in order to stretch supplies due to rising costs for feed and water.

CalPERS puts Yolo workers in Sacramento region
Yolo County workers, including those employed by its cities, will soon pay less for their healthcare after the California Public Employees' Retirement System Board of Administration voted to move Yolo County from the Bay Area health plan region to the Sacramento region last week. Sales of Existing U.S. Homes Fall for a Third Month
Sales of previously owned homes fell in March for a third consecutive month as rising prices and a lack of inventory discouraged would-be buyers. Closings, which usually take place a month or two after a contract is signed, fell 0.2 percent to a 4.59 million annual rate, the lowest level since July 2012, the National Association of Realtors reported today in Washington. Purchases were down 8.5 percent compared with the same month last year before adjusting for seasonal patterns.
