History Center Community Breakfast - Sunday, April 9th:
Enjoy a Sunday morning spring drive through our bright green foothills, this year lushly adorned with poppies, lupine and other spring flowers, to the Old Schoolhouse in Coulterville on Sunday, April 9th.  There you can top off the morning with a hearty breakfast of “all-you-can-eat” pancakes, eggs cooked the way you like them, your choice of ham or sausage and fresh fruit.  Breakfast is served from 8:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m.  Adults are still just $5.00, children $3.00 and a family of four (2 adults, 2 children) can all enjoy breakfast for $15.00.  The Old Schoolhouse is located at the corner of Broadway and Cemetery Streets.

Join us in saying adios to longtime volunteer Barbara Balestrieri, who is retiring for the second time from her role as server.  Barbara always adds “color” to our breakfasts, with her “themed” get-ups tied to the particular holiday being celebrated each month.  Thank you, Barbara, for your many years of service, you will be missed!

The Northern Mariposa County History Center’s monthly breakfasts are the oldest, contiguous means of fund raising conducted by history center volunteers, with the funds raised helping offset the costs of maintaining the museum and keeping its doors open every Thursday through Sunday, February through December.  If you could donate any of your valuable time the second Sunday of the month, we need your help!!!… even if it is just for an hour or two.

No training is necessary and you get a free breakfast.  Call MaryAnn Huff at (209) 878-0111 if you want to volunteer.

Docent Field Trip

Mineshaft Tour and Wildflowers!
If you’ve been thinking about making that call and becoming a docent at the Northern Mariposa County History Center, now is the time, as late this month, on Wednesday, April 26th, the docents will be taking a fascinating field trip led by Hank Gilliam.  We’ll be wending our way to Mariposa via historic Hwy 49.  Along the way, there will be several stops, as Hank shares the history of the road and several notable sites along the route.  This should also be an excellent opportunity to view spring wildflowers given our abundant rain this past winter and sunshine this spring.  The trip will include a tour of a mineshaft and conclude at the Mariposa County History Center, where we will receive a demonstration of their working stamp mill.  It promises to be a rewarding day!

Call MaryAnn Huff at (209) 878-0111 if you would like more information on the program.  It is just a 3-hour commitment each month (Feb.-Dec.).  The museum, located at the corner of Hwy’s 49 and 132 (the base of the John Muir Historic Highway), is open this year on Thursdays – Sundays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. plus special 3 and 4-day weekend holidays.  It is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to preserve and disseminate the local history of early settlement, the gold rush era through the early 1900’s.
