women-self-defenseKnowledge is Power.  We often hear of women who have been victims of crimes and abuse and wonder if anything could have been done to prevent such tragedies.  On Saturday, October 18, 2014 starting at 1 p.m. at Mariposa Martial Arts Academy, there will be a free seminar open to women and their children over 8 years of age.  The Women’s Self-Defense & Safety Seminar will share vital information with the purpose of enhancing the wellbeing of women.

Presenters include representatives from the Mariposa Sheriff’s Department, Mountain Crisis Center, Hammer Stryke, California Highway Patrol, Mariposa Martial Arts Academy, Stage Stop Gun Shop and Mariposa Gun Works.  The Mariposa Sheriff’s Department will talk about the services that they provide to women in need of assistance, especially when dealing with domestic issues.  There will be demonstrations of self-defense moves presented by Angie and Jason Bond, owners of the Mariposa Martial Arts Academy.  They will focus on how to escape choke holds, mounts and wrist grabs.  Attendees are invited to participate.  Hammer Stryke will talk about personal responsibility, awareness, appropriate response and methods of that response to aggressive confrontations.  Topics will include: situational awareness, prevention and avoidance of conflict, and response when avoidance didn’t work.  Also covered will be firearms and selection criteria of your firearm; and less lethal devices such as tasers, and pepper spray. Also covered will be the process of how to obtain your concealed carry permit in Mariposa County.  Stage Stop Gun Shop will discuss methods of carrying a concealed firearm and a woman’s wardrobe choices to do so.

Mountain Crisis Services will speak about the many significant services that they provide to women; legal, counseling, shelter, transitional housing, advocacy, and the definition of Domestic Violence.  Domestic Violence comes in many forms such as emotional financial, physical, and sexual.  The California Highway Patrol representative will discuss car safety for women and their children.  Mariposa Gun Works will share information about a special self-defense pepper spray gel and its use for protection.

This free event is open to women and their children 8+ years.  Bring a friend and perhaps what they learn at the seminar will someday save their life.  To pre-register please call Barbara at: (209) 377-8233.  Visit us on Facebook at: Womens Self Defense and Safety Seminar
