Tim Lowry

Tim-Lowry-StorytellerThe Mariposa County Arts Council will host the 28th Mariposa Storytelling Festival March 13-15, 2015 at Mariposa County High School and Yosemite National Park.  This dynamic event kicks off with a Story Slam!, open to amateur storytellers competing for cash awards, and continues for three days of stories from six internationally recognized professional performers.  Their stories will come from a variety of cultures and movement, gestures, expressions, song, music or dance will be incorporated into their performances.

Included in this outstanding lineup of storytelling performers, Tim Lowry, will be sharing tales that mix American history and folklore with accounts of growing up Baptist, teaching English to Russian immigrants, road trips to Disney World, baseball, hotdogs, apple pie, and Chevrolet!  A consummate performer, Tim entertains, engages and carries you along on a wonderful journey with his stories.

Growing up in southeastern Kentucky, Tim learned the art of storytelling from Appalachian folk.  He studied drama in high school and toured the East Coast in 1987 with a drama school from Greenville, SC.  After earning a degree in Theater, Tim taught English language arts for five years.  He left the classroom in 2000 to become a full-time professional performer. When not on the road, Tim makes his home in Summerville, SC, where he often performs stories of southern culture and history from the “Sweet Tea Trail.”  An award winning recording artist, he has made Storytelling Festival in Jonesborough, TN, where audiences sought out his delicious twist on our American folklore.
