Lorna Pollock
Sculpture, Fiber, Oil

Lorna-Pollock-2264I am attracted to the abstract in the natural environment, and my sculptures, textiles and paintings reflect my observations in their patterns, tones and shapes.

My work with concrete has produced sculptures in a range of sizes for indoor or outdoor display. My larger sculptures are installed in the fields near the studios. I have also made smaller sculptures of papercrete.

In my new fiber arts studio I design, cut, stitch and assemble fabric from my collection of 40 years, sewing by hand and machine, and utilizing tailoring and embroidery techniques.

What intrigues me is finding relationships between shapes and lines, folds, textures, mutable shades of a color, rough and smooth edges, to produce an item that prods the heart or psyche.

I've been a basket maker and teacher of basketry for 36 years, developing an educational basketry & pottery kit business which is now in its 29th year; and I have drawn, painted and sewn since childhood.

My baskets and paintings have sold in multiple Open Studio tours in Santa Cruz, California and Santa Fe, New Mexico. I studied art at Cabrillo College, and participated in the UC Santa Cruz Outdoor Painters Project two summers. My baskets have been shown in Santa Cruz galleries and public buildings.

Lorna can be reached at her home studio in Mariposa: Call (209) 966-2272 or email pollocklorna12@gmail.com.
