2016 Storytelling Pre BrochureStorytelling Time of the Year

It is approaching that time of year when storytellers and their rapt listeners gather in the historic communities of Mariposa and Yosemite, California for good old-fashioned fun.

We hope you will come to the Mariposa Arts Council’s 29th Annual Storytelling Festival, taking place Friday, March 11th to Sunday, March 13th, 2016.  And for the first time you can order your tickets online, so be sure to look for news of our special Early Bird Discount starting in December.

We have invited six internationally acclaimed master Storytellers, who will entertain, educate and inspire you: Charlotte Blake Alston, Donald Davis, MaryGay Ducey, Joel ben Izzy, Angela Lloyd and Jim May.  Make a memory, share a story.  We can’t provide a rocking chair or a porch, but our cozy 1930’s auditorium at Mariposa High School and a backdrop of Yosemite Falls comes close.

And there is much more in store for your visit as Mariposa is steeped in California lore and antiquity as one of the state’s original 27 counties formed by the Spanish explorers.  Our courthouse built in 1854 is the oldest continuously operating courthouse west of the Mississippi River.  Our quaint little St. Joseph’s Catholic Church dates back to the 1860’s.  Two substantial museums will take you back into history, the Mariposa Museum & History Center, and the California State Mining and Mineral Museum.  Plus, of course, there is our main attraction, the Queen of our National Parks, Yosemite!  Best of all, during the month of March our hills come alive with color from a wildflower display unmatched anywhere.  Be sure to bring your cameras or palettes and canvas to record this extraordinary bonus from Mother Nature.

Take time out from your busy schedule, and sample our fine restaurants, browse our Historic District filled with tiny shops carrying “Made in Mariposa” merchandise and don’t forget our own Treetop Gallery featuring curated exhibitions and local artists of all genres from paintings, photography and sculpture.

For ticket and brochure information call the Mariposa County Arts Council at: (209) 966-3155 or toll free (800) 903-9936.
