SHS ParksSmoking & Vaping Rules for Mariposa County include Smoke-Free Parks!

The Mariposa County Board of Supervisors adopted a new Ordinance No. 1112 regulating Smoking and Tobacco Use effective November 26, 2015 and results in county laws for smoking and tobacco use that are current, consistent with state law, and relevant for today.
Important changes that apply under the new regulations are:

  • "Smoking" is now defined to include regular cigarettes, ESDs, also known as e-cigarettes or vaporizers, and a variety of tobacco products, such as cigarillos, chew, and hookah.
  • Prohibits use of ESDs in all workplaces subject to the California labor law restricting smoking.
  • Smoking is now prohibited at all Mariposa County parks, community parks, sports fields, the Mariposa Farmers Market, the Mariposa Creek Parkway, and YARTS bus stops.
  • Smoking is prohibited within 25 feet of all building entrances.

The ordinance will help reduce exposure to harmful effects of secondhand smoke in the community, and especially protect the health of our children and most vulnerable populations.
