Artist Bio: Mariposa artist Vicki D. Thomas prefers watercolors because of the lightness and transparency of colors that flow into washes, as they blend effortlessly one into the other, creating pleasing shapes and new colors. Her vividly painted flowers and floral still-life pieces are her favorites. Many images have appeared on various giftware items such as teapots, tea infusers, tapestries and music boxes. She also has prints and cards.
The artist enjoys painting children and adults and is known to have an attraction for fantasy and whimsical themes. Her experience drawing people comes from many years as a fashion illustrator when she had her own business in Los Angeles. There, she also taught watercolor to young people and adults as she continues to do in her new location.
This year Vicki has added acrylics paintings to her collections. “I love the versatility of acrylics and their lush, creamy colors. I’m especially pleased with my landscapes and floral renditions.
For several decades, Vicki has exhibited and sold at numerous galleries in Los Angeles and art shows and was involved in art competitions where she received awards in juried shows.
Vicki’s art work has been seen at Willow Bridge Books and United Security Bank, Oakhurst; Mariposa County Arts Council (TreeTop Gallery), Mariposa; Senators Cogdill and Berryhill’s Fresno Offices; White Box Gallery, Merced; Fresno Arts Council and a new gallery, Gallery Yosemite, which is located in Gallery Row, Oakhurst, CA. and many more.
