Thanksgiving is a time to spend celebrating with family, friends, and food! MCFD would like to remind you that it is also the biggest day for home cooking fires. Here are some things to keep in mind as you prepare for this special holiday.

-          Unattended cooking is by far the leading contributing factor in home cooking fires. "Stand by your pan" until the heat is turned off.

-          Never use water or flour on a grease fire. Instead, put a lid on it and turn off the heat immediately.

If deep frying your turkey:

-           Set up your fryer outdoors, never in a garage or on a wood deck.

-          Do not overfill the fryer with oil.

-          Make sure the turkey is first thawed and dried completely.
