I am one of the thousands of constituents who Congressman Tom McClintock represents.  He listened to us when we spoke out in opposition to the Merced River Plan, and the Park’s attempt to remove almost all of the recreational activities, historical structures, and amenities from Yosemite.  We far out numbered the small group of “so-called” environmentalists who used their unconstitutional sue and settle tactic to push their green agenda, and bypass the legislative powers of Congress.  He called this to the attention of the Subcommittee on Public Lands and Environmental Regulation.  A hearing was held, and many of these things were retained, much to the delight of the majority of Park users.

Contrary to what many believe, Congressman McClintock did not vote to shut down the government.  He realized how detrimental Obama Care would be for the American people, and stood strong against it.  Congress and the Senate could not agree on short term spending for Obama Care.  This is what shut down the government, and closed Yosemite.  Congress then passed some bills that would fund keeping the National Parks and Monuments open.  The Senate still would not compromise.  Harry Reid and the Senate are responsible for the government shut down and our Park, not Tom McClintock.  It appears that they wanted to hurt the American people, and they succeeded.

There are also those who think that the acquisition of 1,575 acres by Yosemite National Park would be a good thing.  However, there are many unanswered questions as to how the Park will manage this land.  The public has not been informed, and accurate maps are unobtainable. McClintock has “conditions” concerning this expansion of Yosemite, as well he should.  He believes, as do I, that the Federal Government has not done a good job of managing our public lands, and does not need more land to mismanage.  With a 100 million dollar back log for maintenance, he is concerned over how the Park is going to pay for this land.  Also, the Park has not identified how the land would be used.  Will they allow camping, hiking, and horseback riding?  Or will it be another “Look, but don’t touch” scenario?  Right now it has the ideal conditions for another Rim Fire.  It is close to Yosemite West and the Sierra National Forest.  Since it is the Park’s general policy to let fires burn, the surrounding communities would be threatened.  This was purchased by a Trust to develop the land, but they realized it would create some legal battles. The Congressman believes that it would be a bad investment for the Federal Government to bale out private individuals.  He has suggested that the land be donated to the Park, and above all it must be kept open for public use, resort, and recreation.

My husband and I strongly endorse Congressman Tom McClintock.  He has the ability and qualities necessary to put our county, state and country back on track for the benefit American People.  VOTE FOR TOM McCLINTOCK ON NOVEMBER 4th!
