The following Letter to the Editor refers to the upcoming Board of Supervisors meeting:
Mariposa Biomass Project Information and Direction on Selling 7.6 Acres of Land at the Tuesday, July 19 Mariposa County Board of Supervisors Meeting

Dear Editor,
SST LTR
Interesting to read the recent claims made in the promotion of the proposed Biomass plant, touted by local residents.

Stating, "Permanent and well paying jobs will be generated to operate the facility", sounds great, however why not qualify such a "leading statement" with a description of those jobs, including pay scales and local talent to fill them.

As to the 7.6 acres of Mariposa County owned land in question, it is "far-reaching" to assume the County would even consider such a sale as the County acquired the land in recent years to meet a State requirement of monitoring wells for the County Land-fill.

Other "Promises" stated of "other financial incentives are anticipated to be offered in the region of $70,000 to $130,000 per year to help with landfill operational costs".

If this is a private business why would they be affiliated with a County responsibility, or indicate monetary rewards to the "Dump"?

Multiple concerns remain, however at the top of the list is the sale of the energy produced by this plant. Recent news stated, in the "Bee" that the Biomass plant at Chinese Camp will probably close at the end of this month because their contract with PG&E will expire. Included in the article was reference to SB1122. If the referred to bill SB1122 (Biomass) does in fact require PG&E to buy energies produce by private entities, guess who will pay for it? Logic naturally tells you the Consumer will again be called on to "foot the bill"?

Private Enterprise and Entrepreneurs, without a doubt are the basis for a healthy economy, however, as to this proposed "venture" let it be just that, Private, without any involvement of the County or of we the taxpayers!

Ruth Sellers,
Mariposa
