SST LTRYou owe me a public apology for the unwarranted and vitriolic letter you recently wrote to the Editor of Sierra Sun Times.  Yes, it was unfortunate that I could not attend the Board of Supervisors hearing on the Biomass Proposal, due to the fact that I had suffered an accident exactly one day before and was physically unable to do so.  I asked a friend to bring me all e-mail responses and have them here in hand.

And what did I discover?  Almost 50 to 1 in favor of the proposed sale of land under question, to the Biomass Project with only one opposition:   that of yours.

Among those in favor, I might add, was the Native American Council representing a large percentage of our population, plus three (3) residents who hold PHD degrees, one in Physics, one in Economics and one in Education.  Plus a number of private residents, as well as merchants and businesses.  What better endorsement could you ask for?

As stated publicly in Government Chambers, Mrs. Smallcombe engaged the services of legal counsel at her own expense to make absolutely certain that no impediment to her representation on the Board of Supervisors existed, nor any reason for recusal from voting on either the CUP or the Biomass Project.  There is and never was any financial involvement, the Smallcombes are simply interested private citizens like so many of us.

A far cry, I might add, from Supervisor Marshall Long who allowed the early vote on the CUP to go through before his affiliation with mining interests became known.  He cost the taxpayers a pretty penny as a result.  And his insinuations about Mrs. Smallcombe become doubly nauseating as well.

As for the State of California and its future demands, may I point out that their highest priority right now is to alleviate the extreme danger present and into the unknown future of dead and dying trees within our County as well as substantial acreages throughout the Sierra foothills.  The Biomass proposal is a step in the right direction and should receive due recognition as such.  I have nothing but praise for Dr. and Mrs. Smallcombe for their commitment to Mariposa's future wellbeing.

As for your statements about PRIVATE BUSINESS and PRIVATE ENTERPRISE, since when may I ask have you taken a stance against American industry?

To place petty politics above urgent needs is exactly what the citizens don't want and never will.
