SST LTRDear Editor:

Congressman McClintock's Tele-Forum

I picked up the land-line at home around 5:45 on Tuesday evening January 17th to receive a robot call from our Congressman, Tom McClintock, inviting me to join in on the Tele-Town Hall forum presently taking place.  I stayed on the line to have a listen just as I had a few times last year. This session was primarily about the Affordable Care Act (A.C.A. aka ObamaCare), but covered other subjects such as water, jobs, the economy. The Congressman signed off about 6:30 without having time to take my question.

On ObamaCare, in my view McClintock was absolutely correct when he said 'we want everyone to have insurance'.  Health insurance is enormously important, not only to our population's physical health but to our economy and so much more. When Americans are able to go to a doctor for check-ups, ailments like hypertension and diabetes can be recognized and a treatment program began long before a visit to an emergency room due to a stroke or heart attack.  A stroke or heart attack striking the bread-winner or head of household would spell disaster for their family, and also for our economy. This sad story is all too common when citizens have no health insurance. Needed and horribly expensive surgeries or medications can bankrupt a family. Yes, there are stories: food, heat or medicine, what can we afford this month?  Taxpayer funded assistance in a number of ways is sure to follow for a family who loses their head of household or breadwinner. Mr. McClintock offered no specifics on such an important matter other than that ObamaCare has to be repealed and replaced - but with what? The Congressman even went so far to say "we have a MANDATE to repeal ObamaCare".  Apparently our Congressman isn't aware that not only did Hillary Clinton win the popular vote by more than 2.8 million votes, but that Republicans lost seats in both the Senate and the House. Mandate? It sounds as if Tom has already moved into the 'Alternative Fact' world of our new president. The Congressman also said something extremely telling. He said that our health care is the best in the world and that "elite Canadians come to the U.S." for some treatments. Did you catch that? "Elite Canadians”... What Tom is saying essentially is that our health system is BUILT for the "Elites" - not for you, me, our families or your neighbors' families. Our health care system is for elites - not for us average folk. Thank you Tom, that fact has become so obvious now that you've put it that way. I'm quite sure that our Congressman McClintock and his family make good use of his taxpayer funded health care.

One more observation. Nearly every Tele-Town Hall that I participated in last year was filled with Mr. McClintock's angry talk of Benghazi and crooked Hillary Clinton's criminal email scandal. Now, after the election, not a whisper, not a breath about last year's Big-Top issues that saturated the Tele-Town Hall circus... It's almost as if the overblown Benghazi issue and Hillary's so-called crimes were all just propaganda to hurt her chances of winning an election. Imagine that..
