July 18, 2017 - Throughout the week of July 24, Merced Irrigation District plans to allow small, intermittent flows of water to pass through Lake McClure’s gated spillway into Lake McSwain.

merced irrigation district logoThe planned flows are part of normal operations and are being done this year to take advantage of the current wet-year lake conditions.

The volume of water flowing into Lake McClure has peaked for the summer, and the reservoir is now receding.

There is no risk of any flooding at Lake McClure or McSwain.

Operational flows were last passed through the McClure spillway gates in 2011, the last wet year on record prior to this year.

The operation of the spillway gates will have no impact on water supply in Lake McClure, nor is it expected to result in any increased flows on the already fluctuating levels of the Merced River downstream of the Lakes McClure and McSwain.
