July 25, 2017 - Wildland Fire is the #1 natural disaster in Mariposa County. Common to our Mediterranean climate at this time of year, wildfire is first and foremost among county residents’ concerns. How does one live in harmony within our natural wonderland while landscaping for both beauty and fire safety?

Addressing this concern, a FREE public workshop by the Mariposa Master Gardeners is slated for Saturday, Aug. 19, from 10 a.m. to 12 noon in the Board of Supervisors Chamber (5100 Bullion St.). Michael S. Beaudoin of the Mariposa County Fire Safe Council will present “Firescaping & What to Change in a Changing Forest,” an examination of living well and safely in fire prone rural areas. Topics of his presentation will include a brief introduction to the phenomenon of fire, fire history in our area and beyond, defining and creating a defensible space around homes, fire wise landscaping, and fire wise landscaping resources available to county residents. Of course, Michael will entertain questions during and after his presentation.

Besides being eminently qualified to present, Michael is also one of our own Mariposa Master Gardeners!

Participants are asked to register at the website, http://cemariposa.ucanr.edu/ or call (209) 966-2417 to receive handouts and be notified of any last minute changes.
