August 17, 2017 - Alan Haigh is a 4th generation Mariposan; born and raised on the Haigh Ranch just north of Coulterville, in continuous operation since 1852. After attending Coulterville Elementary at the “Old Schoolhouse”, he traveled to Sonora to attend Sonora High, earning his pilot’s license before graduating, paying for the lessons up at Columbia Airport by selling a cow.
Over the years he has been a police officer for the Sonora PD, a game warden and a Greyhound Bus driver…for 32 years…, as well as a rancher, taking over the family cattle business after his father passed away. His hobbies, including photography, backpacking into the high country and a passion for history keep him busy along with his large brood of children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and mega family of dogs who have made the Haigh Ranch their “forever” home.
