Cal Fire

September 8, 2017 - Members of the 144th Field Artillery Battalion of the California National Guard (CAL GUARD), based out of Burbank, CA, are assisting with firefighting efforts to control the Mission Fire today, September 8, 2017.

The CAL GUARD Soldiers have received specialized training, under the supervision of the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (CAL FIRE), to perform as wildland firefighters and will assist under the Unified Command of CAL FIRE and the U.S. Forest Service.

The decades long agreement for use of CAL GUARD resources is often exercised when national, state and regional resources are challenged by multiple, large fires burning across the state.

Please exercise caution when traveling through and around the fire area as military vehicles, along with emergency response vehicles will have a heavy presence.
