September 19, 2017 - Washington—Senator Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) on Monday released the following statement on Graham-Cassidy, the latest Senate Republican health care bill:
Dianne Feinstein
“Senate Republicans have now drafted a fourth ‘health care’ bill, entirely behind closed doors, without hearing from patients, families, doctors, hospitals, health plans and advocates.

“Much like their previous three attempts, it’s estimated the bill would result in up to 32 million Americans losing their health coverage. The bill allows states to opt out of critical protections for those with pre-existing conditions and hits states that expanded Medicaid especially hard. California would be forced to pay more than $57 billion more by 2027 to offset the loss of federal dollars for Medicaid and tax-credit subsidies.

“Despite the fact that the Congressional Budget Office has not yet been able to provide a complete analysis of this bill, and it has received no public hearings, Senate Republicans are trying to jam it through by September 30. They know the only way they have a chance to pass this bill is if the American people know as little about it as possible. It’s insanity.

“I strongly support the efforts by Senators Murray and Alexander to craft bipartisan legislation to strengthen the individual market. Witness after witness told their committee that the issues with affordability and choice are fixable if both sides work together. It’s unbelievable to me that Senate Republicans would abandon those efforts to advance a bill that would be an absolute disaster for this country."
