October 11, 2017 - SACRAMENTO, Calif. - California Insurance Commissioner Dave Jones issued the following statement today in response to 2018 individual market health insurance rates in California:
dave jones california insurance commissioner
"We all waited and waited for the Trump Administration and the Republican-controlled Congress to follow the law and commit to funding the 2018 cost-sharing reductions in the Affordable Care Act. State Insurance Commissioners, health care advocates, and health insurers all made clear that rates for 2018 needed to be finalized by early September. President Trump and Congressional Republican leaders spent their time working to repeal the ACA and destabilizing the health insurance market, rather than taking the simple step of funding the CSR program that reduces deductibles and other out-of-pocket costs for consumers.

The 2018 individual market rates were finalized today, and health insurers will start notifying policyholders about the rate increases. Thanks to President Trump's and Congressional Republicans' inaction, the 2018 health insurance rates are higher than they would otherwise be. The 2018 rates are on average 12.4 percent higher for the Silver Plans, which have the highest enrollment of Covered California plans."
