October 12, 2017 - SONORA, Calif.– The fire restrictions in moderate hazard areas have been terminated as of Oct. 10, 2017. The Stanislaus National Forest enacted temporary fire restrictions in Moderate Hazard Areas on Aug. 26,

Restrictions in High Hazard Areas remain in effect. A fire restrictions map is included with this news release More information about fire restrictions and the Forest Order is available at https://go.usa.gov/xRjQ5.

A campfire permit is still required for those camping outside of developed campgrounds and can be obtained at visitor centers or online at www.PreventWildfireCA.org.

Important fire safety reminders for outdoor activities on public lands include:

  1. Prevent vehicle related fires by maintaining proper tire pressure, ensuring adequate tire tread, and checking your brakes for overheating. Avoid traveling or parking on brush or grass. Ensure chains are not dragging while towing.

  2. Make sure your campfire is dead out! Clear an area at least 10 feet in diameter for your fire. Never leave a fire unattended. Keep a shovel and bucket of water nearby at all times. Use the “drown, stir and feel” to extinguish a campfire.

  3. Motorcycles, ATVs and chainsaws require an approved spark arrestor.

  4. Get your California Campfire Permit online at www.PreventWildfireCA.org.

Stanislaus National Forest leadership and fire personnel thank the public for doing their part to help prevent destructive wildfires, especially in high hazard areas.
