Joan and Herb GloorNovember 16, 2017 - The Mariposa County Arts Council would like to thank the Gloor family (Herb, Joan, David and Mia) for their generous and longstanding support of the Mariposa Storytelling Festival. Herb and Joan Gloor (pictured above) were an ever-present, positive force in Mariposa County, contributing to the vibrancy of Mariposa through their investment in the community’s lodging industry and support of the County’s cultural landscape. For twenty-two years, the Gloors faithfully provided free lodging at their Mariposa Lodge to all the Mariposa Storytelling Festival’s performers, a generous gesture that made it possible for the Arts Council to bring nationally and internationally recognized storytellers to our community.

The Arts Council’s relationship with the Gloors was a close one and when Joan passed away in 2007, the next Storytelling Festival was dedicated to her memory. Likewise, when Herb passed in December 2014, the 2015 Mariposa Storytelling Festival was dedicated to him. After Joan and Herb’s passing, their son, David, and daughter-in-law, Mia, continued to support the festival in the same generous manner.

Last March, the Mariposa County Arts Council celebrated the final year of the Mariposa Storytelling Festival and as we reflect on all the many people who made this event possible, we felt it was important to specifically recognize the Gloor Family, whose quiet but substantial support played such an instrumental role in the festival’s success. We at the Arts Council want to extend our most humble gratitude to the Gloor Family, their big, generous hearts have made Mariposa a better place.

The Mariposa County Arts Council, is funded in part by Mariposa County, the California Arts Council, and the National Endowment for the Arts.

The MARIPOSA COUNTY ARTS COUNCIL, INC. is an incorporated not-for-profit organization, created to promote and support all forms of the cultural arts, for all ages, throughout Mariposa County.
