October 21, 2014 - SACRAMENTO - To ensure all eligible voters can get to the polls, California law provides employees up to two hours off to vote under certain circumstances. Polling places will be open between 7:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m. on November 4.

"Election day is always a Tuesday and in some cases, a voter's work schedule does not coincide with polling place hours," said Secretary of State Debra Bowen, California's chief elections official. "California law gives workers up to two hours off to vote without a loss of pay if they do not have time in their non-work hours, as long as they give their employers two working days' notice."

Every California employer is required to post in a visible location a notice informing employees of their rights at least 10 days before an election. The Secretary of State offers these print-ready notices in English and Spanish at www.sos.ca.gov/elections/elections_tov.htm.
