History Center Closed for Annual Revamp

Gala Reopening February 3rd

The board, docents and other volunteers wish everyone a very HAPPY NEW YEAR!

The Northern Mariposa County History Center is closed for its annual January display refurbishing.  Several new displays are in the works.  One of them will feature the flora and fauna of the region as seen through the eyes of local artists.  Virginia McLean Deutsch is busy gathering and organizing heirlooms for the 2018 “Featured Pioneer Family” display.  Her father, Walter McLean was the owner of the Argo mine, where the newly renovated 3-stamp mill now on display at the museum hails from.

Holiday Raffle Winners

Over $825 was raised in this year’s Holiday Raffle, the final fund raiser of 2017.  These funds covered the cost of a security system installed in the Frank and Ila Barrett wing donated to the History Center just a few months ago.  The lucky winner of the first place prize, a 7’ Ti Pi, donated by Jesse Salcedo, was Gary Williams of Mariposa; the second place winner, Donna Moraschi, from Greeley Hill, won the hand-woven placemat set donated by Jan DeShera and third prize winner, Silvia Mobley also from Greely Hill won the holiday floral arrangement donated by Sierra Flowers.

Gala Reopening Party

The Gala Reopening event…themed: Sierra Treasures, will boast a silent art auction of some of the works of the same artists contributing to the Flora & Fauna display.  Scheduled for Saturday, February 3rd., there will also be some great additional non-art items available at the silent auction.  This year the funds raised at this important fundraiser will kick-off the fund being created to cover the costs of major renovations needed in the Barrett wing and surrounding grounds.  A fund-raising goal will be set once the Board finishes up with an initial assessment of the building’s condition.

In addition to the new displays and silent auction there will be live music, wine, hot cider, a basket raffle and lots of fun!  The wine has all been donated by local Mariposa County Wineries: Silver Fox Vineyards; Casto Oaks Winery; and Butterfly Creek Winery.

Tickets are $15.00 each. To obtain some, just call and leave your name and address on the NMCHC phone, (209) 878-3015.

The museum reopens to the public on Thursday, February 8th, with the same schedule as in 2017: Thursday through Sunday, from 10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. plus Memorial Day and Labor Day.
