February 22, 2018 - The National Weather Service Hanford office reports Winter Weather Advisories are in effect for the Sierra Foothills and the Kern County Mountains for this evening through Friday morning.

Snow accumulations will range from a dusting to as much as 2 inches above 1500 feet.

A storm system moving through central California tonight into Friday will bring much colder temperatures, snow showers above 1500 feet, and gusty winds especially in the Kern County mountains where westerly winds could gust up to 40 mph at times.

Due to the showery nature of the snow, not all locations will receive it. However, the areas that do will have slick, snow-covered roads or icy roads and potential travel delays.

Hikers and campers should be prepared for a change to colder weather, blustery winds and snow.

Also another winter storm pushing through the region on today will provide the Sierra Nevada and upper portions of the foothills with light snow accumulations.

The Kern County mountains will also be threatened with possible snows including the Grapevine and Tehachapi passes.

The highest elevations of the Sierra Nevada could see as much as 3 to 4 inches of new snow during storm passage. Gusty winds will also occur with this system.
