Mariposa Library quilt 1February 26, 2018 - Beginning quilt making, seed starting, and 3D printing are just a few of the free workshops being offered through the Mariposa Library’s Green S.T.E.A.M. Makerspace program on Thursday afternoons at 3:00 p.m.

Teens and adults who want to try making a quilt but have no idea where to start can learn the basic concepts and skills from Kim Tucker, an experienced local quilt maker. Topics covered will include choosing fabric and a patchwork pattern, cutting pieces using a rotary cutter, sewing and quilting techniques and binding. No sewing experience is necessary.

Three sewing machines are available for checkout from the Library for use by Library patrons enrolled in the workshops, which will be held on March 8, 22 and 29, April 12 and 26 and May 10.

To register for the quilt making workshops and receive a more detailed written description of the program, contact the Library at 209-966-2140 or email karen.dusek@mariposalibrary.org.

Adults and children of all ages and abilities are welcome to take part in Makerspace programs on the first and third Thursday. (Children aged eight and younger must be accompanied by an adult.)

Each week features a different craft, science experiment or other hands-on activity related to the overall Green S.T.E.A.M. theme of sustainability. The focus will be on repurposing used materials, using non-toxic ingredients and finding new, less wasteful, more environmentally friendly ways of living, touching on all components of S.T.E.A.M. (science, technology, engineering, art, math).

Registration is required for some classes due to limited space.
