March 10, 2018 - SACRAMENTO – Senate Republican Leader Patricia Bates (R-Laguna Niguel)(R-Laguna Niguel) issued the following statement after the California High-Speed Rail Authority released a business plan on Friday that estimates the california senate republicansproject’s cost jumping another 20 percent (from $64 billion to $77 billion) and the opening date being pushed to 2033:

“Today’s news is further evidence that the high-speed rail project is a financial train wreck for taxpayers. Every additional tax dollar spent on this unnecessary project is one less dollar for critical priorities such as fixing roads. That’s why I strongly opposed the gas and car tax increases because Sacramento’s budget decisions are out of whack. It’s time to stop overtaxing Californians and use the high-speed rail money instead for road repairs.”
