The California Arts Council launches the state’s first specialty plate gift voucher program; proceeds support arts programs throughout California

October 28, 2014 - Sacramento - Californians have a new, easy, and tax-deductible way to support the arts this holiday season. The new Arts Plate voucher program allows the iconic California Arts Plate to be given as a gift. The Arts Plate is the first specialty license plate in California to offer this feature.

ArtsPlate-VoucherCard-102014"The Arts Plate gift voucher is a great new option for arts supporters in California - for the first time, they can buy Arts Plates for others, whether they are friends, family, customers, employees or clients," said Craig Watson, Director of the California Arts Council. "It's a terrific way for Californians and California businesses to support arts education as part of their year-end giving - while taking full advantage of the Arts Plate's tax deductibility."

Arts Plate gift vouchers are available for purchase at www.artsplate.org. Each voucher costs $50 and may be redeemed for a sequentially numbered Arts Plate. Voucher purchases may be considered a charitable contribution to the California Arts Council.

About the California Arts Plate

The arts and arts education cultivate imagination, creativity, focus, and innovation - key skills in the 21st century global economy. Proceeds from sales and renewals of California's Arts Plate provide millions of dollars in support for local arts and arts education programs across California. Arts Plate sales and renewals have contributed over $34 million to arts programming since the plate launched in 1994.

The iconic sunset and palm tree motif was designed by renowned California artist Wayne Thiebaud. Over the past two years, dozens of prominent California celebrities and creative entrepreneurs - such as Annette Bening, Steve Martin, Jack Black, and Vernon Davis - have signed on as "Arts Drivers" to promote the plate.

About the Arts Plate Gift Voucher Program

Each voucher costs $50 and may be redeemed for a sequentially numbered Arts Plate (a $50 value). Vouchers may be purchased as cards or sent to recipients via email. Arts Plate voucher recipients can then visit www.artsplate.org, the ordering website, to redeem the vouchers and complete a sequential Arts Plate order. Funds from unredeemed Arts Plate vouchers will be transferred as contributions to the California Arts Council after the voucher expiration date. Purchases and redemptions of Arts Plates or Arts Plate vouchers are considered charitable contributions to the California Arts Council for tax purposes.

About the ArtsPlate.org Website

ArtsPlate.org was developed by the California-based company Topps Digital Services in conjunction with the California Department of Motor Vehicles and the California Arts Council. Features of the website include Arts Plate gift voucher sales (physical vouchers and e-vouchers), Arts Plate voucher redemption for sequential Arts Plates, direct purchases of DMV sequential and personalized Arts Plates, and direct donations to the California Arts Council.
