Statement on Scott Pruitt's Resignation From Environmental Protection Agency

July 6, 2018 - WASHINGTON— Environmental Protection Agency Administrator Scott Pruitt resigned yesterday after months of controversy and investigations into his misuse of public money and EPA personnel and unethical relationships with Center for Biological Diversity logolobbyists and polluting industries.

“Good riddance,” said Kieran Suckling, executive director of the Center for Biological Diversity. “Pruitt was the most secretive, hostile, paranoid EPA administrator in history. It will take a decade to reverse the damage he did to America’s air, water, farm workers and children.”

The Center for Biological Diversity is a national, nonprofit conservation organization with more than 1.6 million members and online activists dedicated to the protection of endangered species and wild places.

Environmental Protection Agency Administrator Scott Pruitt Resigns

Since becoming EPA administrator, Pruitt has failed to uphold even the most basic protections for our environment and public health.

Statement by Theresa Pierno, President and CEO for National Parks Conservation Association:

“From the beginning we have had concerns about Scott Pruitt’s ability to lead the EPA, which is why NPCA and millions of Americans have long called for his resignation. Since becoming National Parks Conservation Association logoadministrator, Pruitt has failed to uphold even the most basic protections for our environment and public health. In fact, he has actively worked to dismantle them. This includes our national parks, their clean air and water, and the integrity of our lands. We cannot afford to have someone in this position harming the very agency and bedrock policies he is charged with protecting.”

About National Parks Conservation Association Since 1919, the nonpartisan National Parks Conservation Association has been the leading voice in safeguarding our national parks. NPCA and its 1.3 million members and supporters work together to protect and preserve our nation’s most iconic and inspirational places for future generations. Sierra Club Statement on Pruitt Resignation: It’s About Time

July 6, 2018 - WASHINGTON, D.C - Yesterday, President Donald Trump tweeted that he accepted scandal plagued EPA administrator Scott Pruitt’s resignation. The Sierra Club generated almost 100,000 comments urging for Pruitt’s firing and helped expose many of his scandals through Freedom of Information Act requests.

In response, Sierra Club Executive Director Michael Brune released the following statement:

“It’s about time. Scott Pruitt was the worst EPA Administrator in history, and any President that cared about protecting taxpayers, respecting science, tackling the climate crisis, or sierra club logoprotecting the environment would have fired him months ago. Still, credit is due to the many Americans on both sides of the aisle who have taken action and spoken out to oust one of the most corrupt officials in the history of our nation -- and the Trump Administration can be assured that same energy and passion that helped boot Scott Pruitt will be focused on ensuring the next EPA Administrator works for the public, not corporate polluters. We have to restore public trust in the EPA and let the agency fulfill its mission, rather than gut the laws that keep our families safe. A coal lobbyist dogged by ethical questions like Andrew Wheeler is not the person to do that. Senators must confirm a nominee who will hold the health and safety of American families in higher regard than the profits of big polluters.”
