Library Workshop: Self Publishing for Authors

August 2, 2018 - As president and creative director of Ball Point Creative Design, Inc., local author Lauren Ball consults with clients to ensure the design of their book “captures the tone and vision” they had in mind.

oakhurst california library madera countyOn Saturday, August 11, 2018, Ball will present Part 1 of a two-part workshop at the Oakhurst Branch Library entitled “Self Publishing for Authors.” Ball’s workshop will focus on helping authors know the milestones to getting their books published. His presentation entitled “Is Your Book Ready to Publish?” is scheduled from 10:30 a.m. to noon in the Library’s Community Room at 49044 Civic Circle Dr., Oakhurst.

Part 2 of the workshop on Saturday, August 25, 2018, will be presented by Jennifer Moss, another local author and web developer. It is called “Your Book is Published. Now What?”

“Since the publishing landscape is always changing, I make sure an author’s book meets the technical requirements for print as well as eBook formats,” Ball explained.

As an author, book designer and illustrator, Ball said his experience bridges both the writing and production side of the publishing process.

Ball has also authored “Where’s the One About the Bobcat?” an index and summaries of stories by author Patrick F. McManus to help his millions of fans find their favorite stories in more than 15 books of his collected stories. He also maintains a website that promotes the book index.

McManus, who died in April of this year at 84, was an American humor writer who primarily wrote about the outdoors.

As a graphic designer, Ball has many years of experience in book design, illustration and publishing for both self-published authors and indie publishers.

“I also have two blogs for writers, The Leaky Pen at https://theleakypen2.blogspot.com which focuses on writing itself and Ball Points at https://ballpointcreativedesign.com/blog

which focuses on topics surrounding book publishing,” he added.

Ball is also a past president of the Salt Lake Chapter of the League of Utah Writers.

He and his wife moved to Coarsegold four years ago for “milder winters and beautiful scenery.”

The free event is sponsored by the Friends of the Oakhurst Branch Library. For more information, call the library at (559) 683-4838 or visit www.oakhurstfobl.com.
