November 18, 2014 - If you’re looking for a fresh, California-grown turkey for Thanksgiving, there should be about the same number available as last year, according to the California Poultry Federation. Nationally, turkey production has declined about 3 percent. Wholesale prices have risen slightly, but stores usually sell Thanksgiving turkeys at a discount. The Poultry Federation recommends people who want to buy a fresh, California bird order it in advance of the holiday.
