Fire
Donnell fire moderated yesterday, reducing the amount of smoke being produced in the geographic area. Ferguson fire completed the interior burning of its perimeter, expecting a decrease in smoldering activity as operations continue to increase the depth of secured perimeter. Lions fire is still producing occasional group torching as the fire moves along the very steep terrain in the nork fork of the San Joaquin river valley. Wind conditions today may provide Lions and Donnell resources a window of opportunity today, pushing the active edges back into previously burned areas.
Smoke
Donnell smoke settled in the Dardanelle, Strawberry, and Bridgeport areas last night. Areas along the river corridor should expect to see smoke hanging in the river valley throughout the day, with minimal impacts to the South Lake Tahoe area. Moderate smoke from the Ferguson fire will stay in the Merced Gorge and Yosemite Valley until late afternoon when winds switch and bring smoke back toward the west side communities, causing a noticeable increase in the Midpines and Mariposa area. Smoke from the Lions fire will continue to impact the Devil's Postpile area all day. A brief period of clearing for Mammoth Lakes and Lee Vinning will occur this morning to mid-day, with smoke returning to these basins in the evening.
