November 20, 2014 - Madera County Sheriff John Anderson is warning residents about a man posing as a Sergeant with the “Warrants Division,” who is trying to con citizens out of their cash, telling them a warrant has been issued for their arrest.
An Eastern Madera County woman received the call today, and reported the incident to our Office just moments ago.
She said a man identifying himself as Sergeant Eric Lawson, advised her that she must secure a money order for $4,000 or face arrest.
When she asked to speak to his Captain, he hung up. Caller ID showed: 559-203-5920.
Sheriff Anderson says if you receive such a call, or something similar in nature, immediately hang up. It’s a scam.
