Missing At Risk Teen – Found With Help of New Technology
During the evening of January 29th, a 15 year old Autistic boy was reported to be missing by his parents. The boy was last seen at the Mariposa County High School where he is a student.
Minutes from the initial call Deputies were on scene at the school searching the area and gathering further details. The Mariposa County High School Principal was able to send the student’s school photo electronically which was then transmitted to all responding deputies. A Search and Rescue call out was initiated to conduct a search beginning from the High School. A Nixle notification alert was sent out by the Sheriff’s Office and flyers were posted on all of our social media sites. Ten minutes from the initial Nixle alert the Sheriff’s Office received a phone call from a resident of Mariposa who stated he had received the Nixle alert and had possibly seen the teen walking along Hwy 140 towards Catheys Valley. Deputies posted in the area, located the anxious teen near Hwy 140 and Martin Rd. The autistic teen was found 2.6 miles from his last know location of the Mariposa County High School.
This is a perfect example as to why the Sheriff’s Office has chosen to implement this type of technology. The more eyes we have watching and passing along accurate information the better. The Sheriff’s Office would like to thank the Mariposa County High School Administrators and Staff , the Mariposa County Unified School District Special Education Department, the resident who contacted our office with the teens location and all those who have signed up for our Nixle Emergency Notification Service for the collaborative effort in finding the missing teen safe and sound.

January 30,2015 - A missing Mariposa youth was located shortly after an alert was sent out during the early evening hours of Thursday, January 29, 2015. According to Mariposa County Sheriff-Coroner Doug Binnewies the youth was located and he was fine and well. He was considered a walk- away and was found walking west bound on Highway 140. The Sheriff said,"All are relieved he's okay and we're investigating how this occurred.

January 29, 2015 - Circumstances behind Disappearance: Daniel is autistic and may have trouble communicating. He was last seen at Mariposa County High School at approximately 2:54 p.m. Last seen wearing a red jacket, jeans, blue tennis shoes with bright orange laces.
