Re-openingGala Attendees sipping Indigeny Cider in front of Music of Coulterville Display

The Northside Community turned out in high style for this year’s Gala Museum Reopening that took place Saturday, February 7th, 2015.  In keeping with this year’s theme, “Hats Off to Coulterville”, there were not only hats on view all over the museum but also a wide variety adorned many a head.  Adding to this was a great stock of funny hats, glasses and assorted paraphernalia (not necessarily historic) at the door so that those bold enough to wear them received complimentary photos printed on the spot.  There was much to enjoy… well thought out new displays, major enhancements to some of the permanent displays, great food and refreshments including Hard Apple Cider compliments of Indigeny, a new agri-business in Sonora, and both a silent and live auction.  Photos of the event are on the Northern Mariposa County History Center Facebook page and are easily shared.  The board and other volunteers that worked hard…soliciting gifts for the auction as well as attendees from the local area and beyond, making all of the delicious food, setting up, serving both wine and tea, cleaning up and all the other myriad details that make such a great event should give themselves a pat on the back!

DocentsThe 2015 Docents Ready To Host Visitors

And in fact, just days later, on Tuesday, February 10th the day before the museum resumed its regular Wednesday through Sunday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. schedule through December 31st, the docents enjoyed a more in-depth walk through of the various displays so that they can share a wealth of information about them with this year’s visitors and then were treated to a more formal thank you by the Board of Directors, a luncheon at the old schoolhouse complete with a luscious chocolate Thank You cake and certificates of appreciation. Pam Henderson, Display Committee Vice-Chair was given a special thank-you for stepping up and taking charge when the Display Chairperson had to suddenly bow out due to health issues.  This year’s docents will be on hand during all open hours to give personal tours of the displays, or visitors can wander around on their own.  More signage is one of the various new additions, so much can be learned by simply spending a bit of time reading these information loaded labels distributed among the various exhibits.
