February 27, 2015 - Vote Notes by Congressman McClintock:

2/27/15:  Motion to go to Conference on HR 240: Yes.

2/27/15:  H.J. Res 35 – Temporary Funding for the Department of Homeland Security: Yes.

On January 14th, the House voted to adopt HR 240 to fully fund the Department of Homeland Security while forbidding the President from using those funds for his illegal amnesty order.  On February 26th, with just one day to avert a shutdown, the Senate finally responded by voting to fund both DHS AND the President’s amnesty.   These motions invoke the conference process to resolve the differences between the two houses while extending three week stop-gap funding for DHS to allow these negotiations to take place.

The American people overwhelmingly oppose the President’s amnesty orders; a federal court has already issued an injunction against them; nine Senate Democrats have promised their constituents they would oppose these orders (only six are needed to take up legislation on the Senate floor), and I believe the chances are very good that the President will ultimately be reined in both by legislative and judicial action.  These two measures give these dynamics time to work.  In my judgment, this is the only course that allows the House to stand its ground in defense of the Constitution while averting a shutdown of DHS.
