March 27, 2015 - WASHINGTON – National Park Service Director Jonathan B. Jarvis announced today the distribution of $46,925,000 for historic preservation grants to the 50 States, the District of Columbia, the U.S. Territories, the Federated States of Micronesia, the Republic of the Marshall Islands, and the Republic of Palau. These funds were appropriated under the Consolidated and Further Continuing Appropriations Act, 2015, enacted as Public Law 113-235.
“In partnership with the States and Territories, the National Park Service is committed to preserving our nation’s important historic and cultural places, using important tools like these historic preservation grants,” said Jarvis. “Looking ahead to the National Park Service’s Centennial in 2016, we are committed to telling a more complete and diverse story of America’s history in our second century, and this grant program helps us accomplish that goal.”
Grants may be used for a broad range of activities such as historic property inventories, resource protection planning, nominations to the National Register of Historic Places, monitoring compliance with Federal historic preservation requirements, technical assistance to private interests that seek to preserve and protect historic resources, assisting local government preservation programs, and acquisition or development of historic properties.
The National Park Service will administer these funds as part of the Historic Preservation Fund. Amounts made available to each jurisdiction are listed on the next page.
