Erika Miranda's fifth and sixth grade class at Sierra Foothill Charter School provided a spectacular Wax Museum of Living History for students and families.

In studying the formation of the United States, each student chose a historical figure from the time period, researched that person, drew their character and placed him or her on a timeline, wrote a report and monologue, pieced together costumes and props, practiced, and then put on an amazing performances.
SFCS-WM-0Classrooms and visitors started in a waiting area filled with the timeline and written reports.
SFCS-WM-1Instructional Aide Barbara Milazzo gave them an introduction to what they were about to experience.

They were then welcomed into the wax museum five at a time to hear the dialogues (started by pressing a red button attached to each character). Students and visitors began with historical figures from the earliest section of the timeline and worked around the room.

SFCS-wax-museum-2Irie Murphy, playing Patience Wright, tells SFCS students and visitors about how she helped the colonies by hiding secret messages in sculptures. Crispus Attucks, Paul Revere, and Sybil Ludington are just a few of the wax statues students will encounter next.
SFCS-wax-museum-3Jaden DuBois' charismatic performance of Martha Washington had his audiences enthralled and laughing.

By the end of their circuit around the room, visitors had a greater understanding of the timeline associated with the formation of the United States and the roles of historical figures crucial to the creation of our country. The student performances were such that the characters they represented stepped out of history with stories and personalities that impressed all who viewed them.
