Sierra Foothill Charter School seventh and eighth graders investigated the physics behind circus-type acts. Working alone or in groups of two or three, they then put together acts of their own based on the physics concepts, practiced the acts, created costumes, chose music, and finally performed them for the student body, family, and friends last Friday morning.
SFCS-ShaynaShayna Henry wowed the audience with a hula hoop routine that showcased motion, velocity, force, and mass. Celeste Lawrence and Gauge Butler added to the performance by hula hooping in the background.
SFCS-Christine-and-IanChristine Bittis and Ian Harry's clever routine called, "Mirror, Mirror" showcased the properties of reflection and refraction.
SFCS-carter-and-shaneCarter Brown and Shane Henry demonstrated Newton's Three Laws of Motion. In this scene, Shane shows that a body in motion stays in motion unless an external force is applied to it, at which point Carter  extends his arm in front of Shane and Shane stops moving. The audience appreciated the funny antics.
SFCS-kaylaFor the finale, Kayla Enger's gymnastics routine impressed the audience with what a body in motion can do!

The seventh and eighth graders enjoyed performing -- and it was a lot of fun to watch!
