Northside-Pet-ConnectionAt our May 4 Board Meeting we were pleased to welcome a husband and wife team who decided to join the NPC as regular members. Upon hearing about our mission and our support of spay/neuter activities, they decided to take an active role. This will take the form of, first of all, contacting major pet store corporations to solicit grants for our work. We look forward to hearing of the success of these efforts.

With our very dry weather, and the prospect of our usual hot summer, the fire season will be here with its challenges for all of us. First and foremost, every family must have an evacuation plan, including those very important members, our companion animals. Essential elements of a plan would be available at websites such as the SPCA, The American Humane Society, and so forth. To aid first responders, a list of family pets likely to be in the home should be posted in several windows as well as inside the home. This will help ensure that no pet is left behind in the event of an evacuation.

In other news, our Annual Dinner and election of officers will be held at the Coulterville Community Hall at 6 p.m. on Friday, September 11, 2015. Also in September (the 19th) will be the 49er Festival in Groveland, followed by the Coyote Howl at the park in Coulterville on the 26th, both Saturdays. At these events NPC plans to have an information booth and various displays, including appropriate materials for children. Mark your calendars!

We have been publicizing the fact that we now have 30 vouchers to give out each month. Depending on the veterinarian you choose, almost the entire cost of the spay or neuter procedure is covered by the voucher.  Note the number to call for vouchers: (209) 732-6194. During calendar year 2014 our total expenditure for veterinarians, in order to redeem the vouchers, was $3,750. We’re making progress!
