May 27, 2015 - Dear Friends, upon retiring from the United States Congress in 2011, I revived a small vineyard of about 1,000 grape vines left unattended for about 10 years. I actually planted these vines more than 30 years ago. It was the first vineyard to be planted in Mariposa County since the Prohibition Era of the 1920's.
After three years of hard labor in a tiny vineyard far away from Washington DC, I harvested a small crop and made wine at a custom crush facility. I now have available for sale a limited reserve of one hundred cases of 2014 Sauvignon Blanc from Mariposa County.
This 2014 Sauvignon Blanc, under my new label, 1,000 Vines (there are really 952 vines in the field and I rounded up!) is increasingly recognized as an exceptional wine with intense flavors and a long lasting finish. It is delicious. I think it is due to the quadrilateral cordon trellis system and bird netting I installed, which allowed more radiant sunlight on the fruit and longer hang time as the growing season cooled. The fruit sweetened by day and maintained acid by night with no interruption from birds.
I think you will really like this wine! It is getting great reviews. It is currently availabe at fine establishments like Erna's Elderberry House in Oakhurst, and Bella Vino Cellars in Fresno. It is also available on my website, www.1000Vines.com.
